The good news: Rodney Coronado is going back to jail. The bad news: it isn't for long enough

AR arsonist Rodney Coronado is headed back to jail yet AGAIN. Coronado plead guilty Friday to demonstrating how to create an incendiary device with the intent of having someone else go out and commit a criminal act. Under the plea deal, the judge will be asked to impose a sentence of one year and one day in prison. The maximum sentence would have been twenty years. This is what, the third time now that Coronado has been convicted of a crime? And he only gets a year? How many times will this waste of oxygen be allowed to commit crimes until someone finally throws the book at him? I would think that eventually some kind of habitual criminal law should kick in. Lock this loser up for good. He is obviously incapable of being a productive, responsible citizen.

ALF plants fake bomb at medical school

The Animal Liberation Front ( ALF ) has claimed responsibility for a bomb threat at the medical school at the University of California San Diego ( UCSD ). A fake bomb was planted at the campus of the UCSD medical school Wednesday, causing the buildings to be evacuated. According to one report the device was "covered with bullets". The FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force are investigating. Let's see. Here we have ALF planting a phony bomb on a college campus, causing research buildings to be evacuated. Sounds like it certainly qualifies as an act of terrorism to me. I would challenge any ALF apologist to make a coherent, convincing argument that this doesn't qualify as an act of terrorism. I'm not holding my breath. I'm also not holding my breath that you will here any of this condemned on any pro-AR blog or website.

British ARAs claim contamination of children's first aid product

A British extremist AR group calling itself the "Animal Rights Militia" is claiming that it contaminated containers of a first aid cream primarily used for children because they believe the manufacturer to have ties to Huntington Life Sciences ( HLS ) according to this report. It appears that no actual contamination probably took place, but claiming so is itself a criminal act. I guess it isn't enough for AR extremists to resort to things like beatings, arsons, and grave robbery. They now have to engage in scare tactics involving products used primarily by children. How sick is that? And ARAs wonder why people consider them to be crazy or mentally ill. I would welcome them to prove me wrong, but rest assured that you will here nothing but deafening silence about this on the pro-AR blogs.

Even after threats to kill, teen ARA avoids jail time

A 17 year-old ARA in the U.K. has managed to weasel out of jail time despite issuing threats to kill researchers and police officers, according to this report. The teen was given a 12 month "referral order" ( I'm assuming this is something similar to what we in the States would call "probation" ) instead of jail time, because he suffers from "a depressive mental illness". Well, cry me a freakin' river. As if that should somehow be an excuse to not be held responsible for his actions in any kind of meaningful way. Hopefully, just hopefully, this young person will get the right kind of help, and a change of direction in life, before it's too late. If not, another young life will be wasted, and another "useful idiot" for the AR cause will be born.

Animal rights violence and the right of self-defense

Yesterday, I commented on a couple of articles about two researchers who have been victims of AR criminal activity once already, and have had threats of further violence directed at them. I got to thinking about the kind of psychological trauma that these people and their families are being subjected to by the extremist AR criminal element. How does one in this situation get a little more sense of personal security and peace of mind while under ongoing threats from such criminals? Sure, they can have security stepped up at their home and place of work, as well as increased law enforcement presence as well. But even the best security measures are not always perfect, and often law enforcement can only show up AFTER one has been victimized by criminals. Enter the Second Amendment to the Constitution of The United States, a fundamental part of The Bill of Rights. In my view, anyone who is being harassed or threatened by AR criminals, or any criminal for that matter, ought to lawfully exercise their right "to keep and bear arms". I think a law-abiding citizen in such an unfortunate position needs to purchase a firearm and get good training in how to use it properly. If legal in their area, they should also seek a concealed carry permit. Self-defense of one's person and one's family is a fundamental legal and moral right. One of the articles I commented on yesterday said that "a possibly messy and tragic showdown is brewing". I hope that is not the case. Being pro-active about one's own self-defense, in my view, can be crucial in preventing one from becoming a tragic victim of society's thugs. It is time to use that right.

Tensions over AR extremism heating up in L.A., Oregon

Animal rights thugs have stepped up their sick little jihad against scientists in both Los Angeles and Oregon recently. I have commented before about the ALF's attempted firebombing of UCLA researcher and pediatric ophthalmologist ( That's right, they're harassing someone who helps kids see better. How freakin' sick is that? ) Dr. Arthur Rosenbaum's car. Here is an excellent article that appeared last week in L.A. Weekly last week that details ALF's terrorizing of Dr. Rosenbaum. The article does of fine job of exposing the role of the inflammatory rhetoric of AR whackjob-in-chief and Hippocratic oath ignorer, trauma surgeon Dr. Jerry Vlasak, in the increasingly tense climate of fear, violence, and intimidation. The last sentence of the article is nothing short of chilling: "A possibly messy and tragic showdown is brewing.". Let us hope not. Let us hope that the terrorists are found, arrested, tried, convicted, and severely punished before that happens. If this unfortunately does end in tragedy, one thing is for sure: Dr. Vlasak, like the coward that he is, certainly will not accept responsibility for the role of his vile rhetoric in it. He will simply let his sycophantic "useful idiots" take the fall.

In a similar story, another researcher in Oregon is being terrorized by AR criminals. The garage door of researcher Dr. Eliot Spindel was spray painted by ALF and a caustic chemical thrown on his daughter's car. A release on the North American ALF website then further threatened Dr. Spindel with more vandalism and violence including broken windows and firebombs. Jim Newman, communications coordinator for Oregon Science & Health University, where Dr. Spindel works, has a great quote here. According to Mr. Newman: “Americans have the right to protest against things they feel strongly about,” Newman said. “But the harassment and frightening small children at researchers’ home and property damage goes clearly beyond the boundaries of what free speech is all about.” Exactly. But ALF terrorists, like their Islamo-fascist brethren, recognize no such boundaries. Like all terrorists, they have no respect for the rule of law or the rights of others, and they have a smug sense of "moral rightness" about their own beliefs that they think somehow gives them license to terrorize those with whom they disagree in order to advance their own agenda.

In the news......

A $110,000 reward has been offered for information in an attempted firebombing of UCLA pediatric ophthalmology professor Arthur Rosenbaum's car. City councilman Jack Weiss called the attack "a cowardly and despicable act of terror". It certainly is that. Hopefully the reward will lead to the arrest and conviction of those despicable cowards. I wonder if the cops canvassed the AR2007 convention that was just held in L.A.. Seems like a logical place to start looking.

PeTA's phony medical group, Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine ( PCRM ), has no grounds to sue the City of Chandler, Arizona to stop the contruction of Covance's new facility there, according to the city attorney. PCRM's attorney claimed that this "reflects a decision by city government to exclude its citizens". Not really. Since PCRM is a Washington D.C.-based special interest group, and thus are not citizens of Chandler, it represents no such thing.

A new study coming out of the U.K. suggests that consumption of low fat dairy products may help to ward off metabolic syndrome, a group of risk factors for type 2 diabetes and heart disease. In a study of 2,400 middle-aged British men, those who drank at least a pint of milk a day were 62% less likely to have metabolic syndrome than those who rarely drank milk. Don't expect to here anything about this study from PCRM or other militant vegan/AR groups.

Despite animal rights rhetoric, medical experiments in the U.K. involving animals increased by 4% in 2006, according to this report. The increase shows a use of genetically engineered animals as scientists attempt to unlock the mysteries of the human genome. Hopefully this trend will continue, as such research will be critical in understanding the genetic role of many diseases.

According to new research coming out of Australia, "battery cage hens", long one of ARA's favorite talking points, are no more stressed than their "free-range" counterparts. Scientists measured the amounts of stress-caused hormones in eggs from both caged and free range hens, and found the two to be similar. It would seem perhaps that another AR myth has bitten the dust, but don't count on AR ideologues being persuaded by science.

FBI probes attempted firebombing of researcher's car

The FBI is probing the attempted firebombing of a car owned by UCLA medical professor Dr. Arthur Rosenbaum as an act of terrorism. The bombing occurred Sunday, and a group calling itself the "Animal Liberation Brigade" is threatening Professor Rosenbaum with more violence. The group said in the following in their "communique" ( a "comminque" is pretentious AR-speak for a press release issued by a criminal element ) :

"Rosenbaum, you need to watch your back because next time you are in the operating room or walking to your office you just might be facing injections into your eyes like the primates, you sick twisted f---."

Wow. Such venom, such vitriol, such unbridled hate. I thought AR was all about compassion, tolerance, peace, love, and all that wonderful hippie-type stuff? Can't you just feel the love and compassion oozing from the fine folks at "Animal Liberation Brigade"?

One thing I find interesting here is the comments by Chancellor Abrams that even those who agree with AR "should divorce themselves from those who engage in violence, harassment, and criminal acts and do what they can to bring the lawbreakers to justice.". I am familiar enough with the ways of AR organizations ( and admittedly cynical enough ) to know that such a hope is a pipe dream. Rest assured that some ARAs will completely agree with this crime, and that the silence from the rest will speak volumes. You will here nothing from PeTA, HSUS, or any other AR propaganda machine condemning this. I would welcome them proving me wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

Another embarrassment for PeTA

PeTA has received yet another embarrassment as two PeTA employees went on trial today for allegedly "dog-napping" a hunting dog belonging to an animal control officer. The dog was allegedly picked up by two PeTA employees and its tracking collar removed and thrown on the side of the road, perhaps indicating they had no intention of finding its owner. The two employees are each charged with grand larceny for the dog ( a felony ) and petty larceny for the collar ( a misdemeanor ). The dog was later found by police in the back of a PeTA-owned van driven by the employees. All I can say is that is one lucky dog that the cops showed up. Given PeTA's sordid history, the last place you want to be if you're a dog is in the back of a PeTA-owned van. We'll keep an eye on this one as the trial progresses.

Jerry Vlasak launches insane homicidal diatribe on pro-AR blog

Self-anointed "animal liberation press officer" Dr. Jerry Vlasak has offered up a bizarre, misanthropic, venomous screed in the comments section of a pro-AR blog. Most of this is Dr. Vlasak regurgitating what we have heard from him before: calls for the murder of animal "exploiters", and it really does speak for itself. It is the ranting of a lunatic. There are a couple of statements made by Dr. Vlasak, however, that are worth analyzing:

"Despite all the millions of dollars and untold human hours spent on currently accepted tactics of education, legislation, and demonstrations, more animals are being tortured and killed every year, both in the US and worldwide than at any time in history. As a scientist and physician, I am taught to question techniques that do not improve results."

And as a physician Dr. Vlasak is also taught to be beholden to the Hippocratic oath to do no harm. Yet he is a constant promoter of violence and a purveyor of violent, irresponsible rhetoric. The Hippocratic oath is supposed to be the physician's highest ethical standard, and Dr. Vlasak seems to ignore his responsibility to it at every turn, choosing instead to promote the very opposite: harm to his fellow human beings.

"Fear is an effective factor in altering behavior,......."

Yes indeed, it certainly can be. Just ask al-Qaida and other Islamo-fascist, jihadist groups. They live by the very same same creed as apparently Dr. Vlasak does: if people reject your point of view, then by God, FORCE them to accept it through terror, intimidation and violence. Indeed, the use of fear and intimidation to coerce is the very definition of terrorism. Such tactics have no place in a free, open, and democratic society, Dr. Vlasak.

"Lastly, anyone who believes in the possibility of total animal liberation while billions of humans continue to inhabit and decimate the planet is delusional. Only when most humans have died off will there be a chance to returning to a society that values all beings for who they are."

This one is so insane that it is truly frightening. Now Dr. Vlasak is apparently, at the the very least indirectly, advocating for genocide. I wonder if he would volunteer himself to be in the group of "most humans" who have "died off"? Don't hold your breath. Again, I ask the same question: how can a physician, who swears an oath to not harm people, take such a position and still be considered credible? I leave it to you, the reader, to decide.

I don't believe that most people in the AR movement share Dr. Vlasak's crazy views. He is the most lunatic of the lunatic fringe. Something also tells me that Dr. Vlasak wouldn't actually himself do the things he advocates, because, like the rest of radical AR leadership, he is a coward. He has no intention of giving up his ivory tower for 6x6 cell and a girlfriend named Bubba. But if he can find at least one "useful idiot" who is willing to do his bidding, then he has, at least in part, accomplished his goal. Dr. Vlasak's latest trip into madness reminds me of this great quote by Roy McMurty, Attorney General of the province of Ontario, which I will leave you to ponder:

"It is important to answer the mad man. It is important because, left unanswered, his lies and his malice can poison the climate. They can do worse. They can make other men mad. Left unanswered for long enough, they can nourish everything in men and women that is hateful and destructive and murderous. Our end is to ensure that every time the madman shouts in the market place, he is answered."

Dr. Vlasak and his ilk are madmen, and their "shouting in the marketplace" must be answered.

Update to ALF attack on non-fur selling "fur" store

Last week, I posted about an ALF vandalism on a store in Pennsylvania that has the word "fur" in its name, but doesn't actually sell fur. Well, the story has been updated to now include comments by self-anointed ALF "press officer" Dr. Jerry Vlasak. Yes, this is the same Dr. Vlasak that advocates murdering scientists to stop animal testing. In the story, Dr. Vlasak dishonestly attempts to shift the blame for the attacks from the perpetrators and onto the victims. Why? Simply because they use the word "fur" in their name. Dr. Vlasak is using the exact same kind of logic here that some people use to blame a rape victim, rather than the rapist, for the rape: since a woman was dressed provocatively, it is her own fault, not the fault of the perp, that she got raped. After all, by dressing provocatively, she was "just asking for it". Dr. Vlasak is using the same horrid logic: since the business uses the word "fur", well, it's their own fault they got hit. As per usual for Dr. Vlasak, he is utterly intellectually and morally bankrupt.

Doh! ALF idiots attack "fur" store that doesn't sell fur

According to this story, the Animal Liberation Front ( ALF ) is taking responsibility for vandalism at Linda's Fashions and Fur Salon in Geistown, Pennsylvania. Apparently none of the ALF criminals bothered to check up on their chosen target before indulging themselves in their need to vandalize: the business in question doesn't sell fur, and hasn't for the past 20 years. Intelligent people, these ALF types, aren't they?

Death toll from apparent "animal liberation": 400 mink and 2 family dogs

This is a rather disturbing story coming out of Pennsylvania. Four hundred mink will killed when they were released form a mink farm, and two dogs were also stabbed or shot. As the article states, no one has taken responsibility for this act, but it sure seems like it has the Animal Liberation Front ( ALF ) or other similar radical "animal liberation" group written all over it. I would guess that the dogs were killed because they were apparently trained to round up the minks, and the perpetrators couldn't allow that to happen. This incident pretty much sums up what is so wrong about "animal liberation" terrorists. To release animals into the wild like this is nothing short of criminally irresponsible. First off, it often ends up killing the very animals that these miscreants claim they want to protect because they often die from exposure, being run over, predators, etc.. Furthermore, such a release has the potential to also devastate the local ecosystems by the influx of these often non-native animals. And these are the same people that claim to care about animals and the environment. Why would those who favor AR release animals to die and kill dogs one might ask? I think the answer is that because to the AR/animal liberation mindset, self-serving ideology and agenda trumps all. If some animals must be sacrificed to achieve their goal of "total animal liberation", in the words of Ingrid Newkirk, then that is an acceptable loss in their minds. In short, the ends justify the means. We saw a similar thing in the U.K. recently in which some animals were killed in an ALF arson at a dairy farm that damaged farm machinery and a hay barn. Again, the fact that some animals were killed is inconsequential to the perpetrators. You will not here either of these actions condemned by PeTA or any other outlet of the animal rights mafia. Why? Because there seems to be an unwritten rule amongst many ARAs that you never, ever criticize a "direct action" or the ultra-radical lunatic fringe that conducts them. To do so is to harm "the cause". The hypocrisy here is mind-boggling as well. To the AR mind, it is apparently OK for them to kill animals if it somehow advances the "higher goal", but God forbid using animals for life saving medical research or shooting a deer to put food on your table.

Drug Enforcement Agency probing PeTA

According to this story in the Virginian-Pilot, the federal Drug Enforcement Agency is investigating PeTA and the way it trains employees on procedures for handling controlled substances that it uses in animal euthanasia ( yes, PeTA kills animals; by the thousands in fact ) . I found it very interesting that the article claims that the raid on PeTA headquarters was unannounced because of fears the agency had that evidence may be tampered with or destroyed. Perhaps this is just standard procedure for the DEA, I'm not sure. If not, I think it says a lot about just how untrustworthy law enforcement thinks PeTA is. This could be one to keep an eye on.

AR wingnuts threaten to "slaughter" Jennifer Lopez

According to this article, celebrity Jennifer Lopez has been sent threatening letters that threaten to "kill her in public" if she doesn't stop wearing fur. Ah, threats of murder. These AR types are just so compassionate aren't they? What could be more compassionate than threatening to kill someone whose lifestyle you disagree with? Chalk up another one for the lifestyle of the kind, the gentle, and the compassionate. Notice the PeTA comment at the end of the article:

"All violence is wrong. But J.Lo needs to stop the real violence she promotes and subsidises ( sic ) rather than give herself extra protection she doesn't need."

Translation from AR-speak into plain English: "Surrender to our threats and extortion, live life as we, the AR elitists, order you to live it, and we won't threaten you any more". Will PeTA ever stop its rationalizing, excusing, or outright condoning of violent criminal behavior? Don't hold your breath.

"Miss Whiplash" one of several busted in AR terrorist sting

A prostitute known as "Miss Whiplash", because she specializes in bondage and other such services, was one of 32 people busted in a large sting of AR extremists in the UK and Europe. "Miss Whiplash" was allegedly funding extremist AR activities through her "professional fees". Make of this what you will, but one thing is for sure: if you're a fan of both kinky sex and "animal liberation", you seemed to be getting double the bang for your buck with Ms. Lawrence.

Staring down hard time, Rod Coronado claims he's changed

Facing trial on domestic terrorism charges this summer, radical AR arsonist and PeTA money recipient Rodney Coronado claims that he no longer believes in "illegal direct action". Right Rodney, whatever you say, dude. There's an old saying that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, and I don't think you can teach an old arsonist new tricks, either. You can paint me cynical if you like, but I always find it amazing how some criminals suddenly have "reformed" themselves when facing serious consequences. I can't help but wonder if Rodney's lawyers have coached him to try to generate some positive PR for himself to help him try to keep his sorry backside out of the big house. Mr. Coronado is nothing more than a habitual criminal and a coward who does not want to take personal responsibility for his own actions, and I don't think he's fooling many with this charade, certainly not me.

European police sweep nets 30 AR arrests

Thirty animal rights extremists have been arrested in raids in the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands according to this report. The set of raids was dubbed "operation Achilles" and is thought to be the largest operation ever targeting AR extremists. The alleged perps are charged with a variety of crimes including arson and vandalism. Kudos to the cops for some great work here. If convicted, that's hopefully 30 AR miscreants that are going exactly where they belong: to the joint. Chalk up one for the good guys.
